September 15, 1933 ~ April 18, 2024 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Obituary

Barbara Aline (Lawsure) D’Agostino passed away in her home at the age of 90 on April 18th surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Springfield, MA to the late Walter and Yvonne (Phaneuf) Lawsure and lived in West Springfield for 86 years before moving to Agawam several years ago. Barbara graduated from West Springfield High School in 1951 and during her high school years she enjoyed roller skating and dancing at the Riverside Rollaway in Agawam with her friends. It was there she met Angelo D’Agostino, whom she wed on October 8, 1955 and they had 62 wonderful years together until Angelo passed in 2018. Barbara and Angelo moved into their dream home on Laurence Drive and raised their daughter Carla and son Alan there. She loved to entertain family and friends and hosted many holiday dinners and birthday parties, creating custom birthday cakes for her children. The house was often filled with the laughter of their friends during dinner parties and barbecues and her famous cheesecake was the favorite dessert of all. Barbara and “the girls” enjoyed their monthly bridge parties, but more talking than bridge playing was usually done. She was an expert seamstress and made many of her own clothes and also matching outfits for her and her daughter one Easter. Barbara was also an avid bowler and took part in many leagues over the years. She volunteered for her son’s Cub Scout den and her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and helped out in the library at the former Immaculate Conception School. She worked for many years as an executive secretary at the former Rexnord Roller Chain in Springfield. After retiring, Barbara traveled with her husband, spending winters in Florida and taking trips around the country. Once the grandchildren were born, she could be found attending baseball games, wrestling meets, dance recitals and school programs. Barbara was an avid reader and was a longtime patron of the West Springfield Public Library, which she would visit weekly in retirement, and it was no surprise that the staff knew her well. Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Carla Chase and son Alan D’Agostino and his wife Ellen, all of Agawam, her grandchildren Brandon and Adam Chase and Rey and Andrew D’Agostino, her sister Edwina Hubbard and husband Gibby and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Angelo, son-in-law Mark Chase and sister Irene Gutowski. Calling hours for Barbara will be held at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main St., Agawam on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 9-10AM, followed by a memorial service at 10AM with burial immediately following at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Springfield Public Library Memorial Fund, 200 Park St., West Springfield, MA 01089 in memory of Barbara.
